Community service and philanthropy are unifying and fundamental to our organization, each and every Alpha Phi woman is passionate about these two aspects of our sisterhood. Alpha Phis at GWU hold many service events and activities that allow us to give back to the Washington D.C. community that improve not only the character of our chapter but also the community that we call home. As a chapter our philanthropic efforts focus on our fraternity’s international organization, The Alpha Phi Foundation, which raises awareness and funds research for the number one killer of women, heart disease. We keep The Alpha Phi Foundation’s goals and efforts in our hearts throughout our philanthropic events on campus.
As a chapter we host Heart Week every February with the intension of educating our peers on cardiac care and bringing the Greek community together to benefit the cause through our events. We are always very fortunate to have an amazing turnout for this week as well as in our one-day fall philanthropy soccer event, Alpha Phifa. During these events we love to enjoy the company of other Greeks on campus as they participate in our philanthropy just as when we are able to participate in theirs. We also host an annual Red Dress Gala each fall where we fundraise through a silent and live auction; this has become a signature event for many Alpha Phi chapters across many campuses. The Director of Philanthropy and the Red Dress Chair always do an amazing job organizing and perfecting these events, and I look forward to working with them this year to do all that we can for women’s cardiac care and the Alpha Phi Foundation.
